All human crises are fundamentally characterised by a heightened sense of vulnerability and a greater exposure to risk as individuals and as groups. In times of crises our focus naturally goes towards controlling the damage, we get all hands on deck to work on worst case scenarios. Our natural reflex is to cut costs, maintain shareholder value and focus on the numbers. What we too easily forget at such times, a time when it is needed most, is to make everyone across all stakeholder groups feel like we are “together in this”. This requires enough mutual respect and care so we can continue growing our business post crisis.
