“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” (Margaret Mead).

In this podcast, our guest Benoit Greindl, co-founder of the Regenerative Alliance and Innate Motion’s partner Muriel Soupart share how to accelerate our transition to a more regenerative economy by strengthening our bonds with self, others and nature.

The Regenerative Alliance is a community of entrepreneurs and business leaders who believe in using business as a force for good, combining purpose and business to fix the big issues the world is facing while creating wealth. Its founders are looking to unleash the innovative capacity of business to accelerate the well-needed transition to a more regenerative economy, one that looks to maximize value for all stakeholders, not just shareholders.

Innate Motion works as a strategic partner to the Regenerative Alliance, having helped its founders identify the most relevant needs of the people it aims to serve and crystallize its purpose and guiding principle: strengthening bonds with self, others, and Nature.

Here are the key takeouts from this podcast:

It starts by changing our consciousness – At the core of the problem is our collective consciousness, our perception of what business is. We have been educated to think business is there to maximize profits and shareholder values, we now see the extreme limits and negative externalities of this model. Hopefully, more and more business people realize we have built our current systems on the wrong assumptions. But we need more people to go through the wake-up call. And we need those who have that consciousness to create a ripple effect.

A safe place to build deeper bonds – At the creation of the Regenerative Alliance, empathic discussions with potential future allies helped identify that the biggest need was not one of content and services, but one of the meaningful and deep connections with other like-minded people, one of a special place where people could be fully themselves and that could liberate the goodness in each of us. This led to focusing the alliance activities on experiences that bring deep meaningful connection, breathing species, and inspiration from nature.

Bonds with self: consciousness start with self. The prerequisite to meaningful connections and engaging in transformation with others is to start by reflecting on our own condition. You need to first love yourself to be able to love others.

Bonds with others: believers need to be surrounded by other believers to fuel their quest and unlock the potential of their collective intelligence. It’s about the quality of the connections and having a safe space to engage deeply and fully.

Bonds with nature: Nature should be our source of inspiration, not of extraction. Nature is regenerative by definition, it is circular, it produces no externalities. A regenerative organization is an agile living organism, that is one with nature, not separated from it. We need to be close to nature to help transform ourselves.

Empathy to shift from ego to eco: Becoming regenerative means moving from an ego-centered perspective of few beneficiaries to an eco-system perspective that takes into account the globality of all stakeholders of an eco-system, including nature. It requires making people from different disciplines work together, breaking silos that have been put in place for too long. Empathy is a key enabler of that capacity to understand and value others’ perspectives. Empathy isn’t just about talking to each other. It is much more profound, it is about feeling what others feel. Empathy is a regenerative muscle that needs to be trained. It is not innate, we are not born with or without empathy. We need to want to experience it and want to train it to get better at it. The world will become more regenerative when more people have that ability.

Should you join the Regenerative Alliance? The regenerative economy is Glo-cal. It needs global consciousness and intelligence, with local implementation and production. The Regenerative Alliance is an open living system: wherever you are on the planet, if there isn’t a regenerative community for you to be part of, we will help you create one. It is up to the allies to unlock the potential of its collective.
